Summer Nights

234 Summer Nights

Do you know much I love making lists like this one? Well, probably… Owing to the fact that I ramble about so much I like, here. (I classified these as summer essentials, as compared to my last list which was about winter lovelies. Also, however, if you combine both of these lists; they contain all of my favourite things to wear, yep!)

Okay now, in some order?

1. Body harnesses can shopped for from Sreesha’s shop, Lune or made by yourself (you will need a pair of pliers, some metal chains and circular links, and/or cute charms). The thing about a delicate body harness is that it can be worn under your clothes, and looks very sexy with everything beachie; if it makes you feel good then just wear it, it’s not even about how it looks. I like that it’s so very alluring; and think it might be good to get a light-bodied one made in actual gold so it doesn’t lose quality over time (or in terms of its finish). INVESTMENT!

2. Ooh, I need to be earning more money to invest in a pair of cool, summer kicks (but check out Bata because I think they have some decent and/or plain ones that you can refurbish, yourself). Besides the canvas slip-ons, I have been eyeing those Stan Smith sneakers from Adidas from the time I saw them first on Kiran Rao in a pair for ELLE (India) magazine, last year.

3. Funnily/luckily enough, I found a lovely brown leather + wooden sole pair at Promod way back in 2012 for Rs. 1000 and they still look smoking (it’s a different story that I haven’t worn them ever) but I also recently bought a pair earlier this year from Forever 21 whose soles are super lightweight and are a dream to walk in, and they actually suit me. Or what I like wearing! Chunky sandals are the only high heels that I make an exception for, because some inches are a bother for my cankles (one of my guy friends at an ex-workplace pointed out that I have *GASP* cankles). Thanks for the tip-off, bruv! And I’ve broken my foot twice now in the 28 years of my existence so yeah.

4. Crochet fabrics (there are some cool things to be bought from Mango + Vero Moda, btw) have been on my mind since 2012, and I haven’t begun to love them any lesser just as yet.

5. Ah, crossbody handbags! :-)

6. Light (slightly overall acid wash) denim blouses are IN! I think Marks & Spencer had one, last season with a cute pocket over the breast area. (I’m not talking about the button-down shirts, btw!)

7. These are expensive for sure, but you’ll find cheaper versions at your local haunts – for me, La Judi is the answer… Of course, there are also flatform sandals which look really, really good, too.

8. Gypsy jewellery, self-explanatory… Think of cultural motifs, coloured tassels, pompom detailing (we’ll get back to that), body armour (yes, those Rajasthani pieces count), hammered metals, blah-blah, etc.

9. I don’t know about you but I do love grandma-inspired looks! Grandmothers (well, some) really are with it; and okay, so, pleated skirts… Of course, I do prefer the pleather variety over chiffon (ever since I bought a smouldering one from Marks & Spencer) but yeah… Pleated skirts in a midi-length are the way to go (especially with sneakers), in my opinion.

10. Ah, yes… I’ve always liked pompom detailing, especially on the edges of a cotton weave or bohemian kimono – it’s such an easy way to add a cultural accent or pop of tone to your get-up; and speaking of which, I’ve been making pompom necklaces for The Jupiter Skye Shop so if you’re interested, you know where to go after reading this post, heh.

P.S. Also, why is this post titled Summer Nights huh, you ask? What’s the connection? I was looking for a good way to pun but there was none, however, while I do enjoy going out in the late afternoon – I think I like those days when you’re out at that time (in a nice place) and then the day gradually progresses to night, and you’re wearing something good, and well the temperature hasn’t changed much so yeah it’s still summer but it’s night and you feel pretty… Gosh. That was way too long-winded a sentence even for me! Forgive me?

Aquamarine

223 Aquamarine

Ooh, sorry for waxing poetic – Nay, oceanic – about aquamarine hues! When I was little, I always maintained that my favourite colour was blue. Or I would tell people random things, how much I liked (and still love, to this day) looking at swimming pools; I think mermaids just could be real (oh, humour me – won’t you, please?), I found myself to be an ardent collector of sea stories (and shells), and enjoyed making castles of sand, and well, just all kinds of ocean-related crazies.

I think over the years though, the blues darkened and I fell in LOVE with black, fast and very hard… But I guess I still always really liked the colour blue. Sorry, I know this sounds like some weirdo romantic escapade! :-( Okay, cutting several anecdotes short to include in this story, I think you know that I have been crushing over blue, green, mint, teal hues ever since last year… Erm, the “Minaj Wedding”, yougaiz! These tints that just soften a look, or pop an outfit oh-so-dreamily.

1. Nika Brooch, And Smile – $17.30

Ordered this brooch pin (and the other one in the picture) from Viktorija Semjonova, last year. I will not get into specifics because I already wrote about these lovely, water-colour prints before.

2. Turquoise Ombre Gathered Maxi Dress, bhane. – Rs. 950

Been thinking about this oceanie/mermaid dress on bhane. for a long, long time now! I think it’s just so pretty, and also, I’ve never ordered from bhane. before. Ooh, I want to!

3. Isis Necklace, Lune – Rs. 500; Laura Brooch, And Smile – $17.30

This is one of my favourite pictures from this shoot! I bought the book a couple of years ago, and don’t remember if I liked it all that much but the cover? SIGH. That cover! The key charm necklace is from Sreesha’s shop; I like its broken quality – makes me think of vintage houses, you know?

4. CASUAL Sea Salt Texturising Spray, TONI & GUY (200 ml) – Rs. 1,050

Erm, okay, so sue me! Bought this on a whim, I had heard about it a bit, yeah, and thought it might be fun to try out. So, it smells really good, and I’ve been using it to style my hair messily as opposed to having actual bedhead, lolol, and yeah, to weave braids into my messy knot thingie. I think I got excited mostly by the mention of SEA SALT, alone.

5. Sreesha Necklace, The Jupiter Skye Shop – Rs. 480

Aha! The Jupiter Skye Shop exiiiists, you all! RO CAN HAZ SHOP! I am being tardy with uploading more jewellery and stationery frequently, but look out – There will be lovelies that you will want to order. Ah, endless hope.

{ What else is in the picture? 1. Cream White Lace Bralette, Forever 21 – Rs. 679; 2. Brazilian Knickers in Emerald Green, Marks & Spencer – Rs 599; 3. Eternal Love Pendant (Triquetra), Accessorize – Rs. 695; 4. Ear Cuff (Dancing Skulls), Colaba Causeway – Rs. 90; 5. Psychedelic Feather Earring, Dryad – Rs. 500; 6. Mystical Glass Box (Hexagon), The Home Label – Rs. 640; 7. Rhinestone Teardrop Earrings, Accessorize – Rs. 403.50; 8. Express Finish Vernis Séchage in 865 Turquoise Green, Maybelline New York – Rs. 220 }

(HELLO, HOW ARE YOU?: Wanted to get your attention to tell you that none of these clothes, products or whatevers were sponsored for this post; everything’s been bought by me and all views are naturally my own. Probably, sadly, too! Also, if you are my friend in real life, you will know that I have not worn many of these lovelies just as yet… OUI, I AM A HOARDER.)

The Twelve Days of Christmas

209 The Twelve Days of Christmas

Can I just tell you how very exciting it was to curate lovelies for this GIFT GUIDE? Extremely thrilling! A few things… I have purposely not created an elaborate gift guide because that would depend on your budget and how much you like the person, etc. That decision is yours! These basically serve as  s t o c k i n g  s t u f f e r s  for your handful of best girlfriends or even your  M O T H E R  or sisters (yep, this is the feminine edition!), or for when you haven’t bought anything for a close someone who came home and you forgot to get them a present.

Of course, I really hope you like the ones I have picked out, there will be plenty of other gift guides out there on the interwebz – this is my first one, HERE, and well, hopefully, because you’re a Jupiter Skye reader, you should like these thoughtful presents… Brace yourselves, for I think I have rambled ever so much – SORRY!

1. Gold stone quartz necklace, Lune – Rs. 1,650

Sreesha Shetty has been written about a lot before, and for good reason! Crafting beautiful, indie pieces for a whimsical dreamer forms the base of her expertise, at Lune, her label. I do not know for certain if this particular piece is still available but you can always e-mail her at shoplune@gmail.com to get something custom-made. This gold quartz necklace seemed particularly festive to me! :-)

2. Gold Floral Tattoo Set (Rifle Paper Co.), Tattly – $6

Okay, I’ve been bookmarking a lot of these all over the place! Because this one is created by Anna Bond (also known as Rifle Paper Co. – yes, her!), I thought it would be fitting to have her Gold Floral tattoo set which is available to buy on Tattly – on this list – especially for all the other lovers of her work, out there. (These are temporary, tu comprende?)

3. Ho! Ho! Ho! Gift Tags, Little One’s Doodles – Rs. 200

For the stationery lovers, and those who love making pretty packages of Christmas presents; this set of fourteen + festive gift tags are for you. The illustrator behind these babies is also working on an exquisite calendar for the next year so you should look out for that, too. (An adorable pick for an office desk!)

4. Fabric covered planner journal (Rubberband), Crossword – Rs. 850

A commendable pick for whoever loves jotting things down; and the pages inside are so smooth and white! This is like the best planner, EVERRRR. (Available in a rainbow of colours, the one I had this year was a macaron pink.)

5. Party Fox Brooch Pin (And Smile)Etsy – $11.24

Now here’s a cheery fellow (crafted by Viktorija Semjonova) to accompany you this festive season, I think he makes a lovely accessory for those friends of yours who adore water-colour arts and would love wearing little Foxie here over their jacket-lapel or cardigan, or that little cousin/sister whom you want to get something cute for.

6. Cranberry Scented Lip Balm #1, Kiehl’s – Rs. 495

For starters, their lip balm really is #1! I have a tube of it, and it’s an instant cure for chapped lips, all over town. (I don’t have the Cranberry one yet, but I’m guessing it would smell delicious.)

7. Party Panda Ankle Socks, Forever 21 – Rs. 159

Picked these up last winter (Look at me, acting all fancy, pretending it was so cold in Bombay last November/December!) and I know that Forever 21 still stocks super cute socks (there’s an oxblood pair with black lace details I’m eyeing already)… They are one of the coolest stocking stuffer ideas, ever! I would love to get socks for Christmas, wouldn’t you?

8. Washi Tape, Anupam – Rs. 70

Four very pretty rolls of washi tape, and you have yourselves a cute gift for someone who adores crafting, or stationery in general. (Certain this one is on my baby sister’s list!)

9. Festival Purse, Safomasi – Rs. 1,200

Safomasi sells very lovely things in their little store online, and while you could alternatively order a couple of cushion covers with pom-pom detailing as a set for your mother or favourite aunt, I do think this Festival Purse is très cute – it’s a good gift for someone who is a supporter of such labels.

10. Skarab Necklace (KICHU), Da Flokk – Rs. 2,100

For the Egyptian-loving, cool indie girl toting around charms from all over the world – I would say that you should order this gold scarab beetle charm from KICHU for her. Because, KHEPRI!!!!

11. Wild Argan Oil Shower Gel + Body Lotion, The Body Shop – Rs. 425 and Rs. 695, respectively

This range smells both heavenly and very luxurious, a combination of these two would be ideal for: a) Mother, b) Sister, c) BFF, d) Favourite Auntie, or anyone whom you think will like the scent. (What does it smell like? Warm, nutty, it’s a very enveloping scent, sweet but older. Sophisticated?)

12. Boar Brooch, bhane. – Rs. 900

The brooch pins from bhane. are extremely rare! Rare, because I haven’t spotted origami inspired pieces like theirs anywhere else. Order the animal or bird you think your giftée will fancy because I can’t speak for them. These would be very cool to receive; TRUST ME.

These were also a bit of a random selection, based on my personal ‘Likes’, and such but I just knowwww you will like to bookmark these for someone else or get them for yourself, if you wish. Christmas feels better when you’re gifting! Let me know what your favourites are, it’s always fun to discuss these things, no?

P.S. This was definitely not sponsored, I feel that I should clarify this? Also, I might be working on an exciting artwork for a close friend… I am waiting for her e-mail, as we speak.

Truth or Bear

197 Truth or BearEver since bhane. revealed that they were working on an accessory line (sometime ago), I was pretty much hooked! Well, intrigued, I suppose. (Magali knows how much!) Then, I randomly started spotting pieces of their jewellery on an Instagram account of one (or two) of their employees + in an ELLE cover feature with Kiran Rao (sometime in August; the jewellery was launched recently on the website). Opinions, opinions (okay, my two paise) on the collection: I think it’s interesting that they’ve stuck to what they’re about – Basic, Clear, Minimalist, Wearable. I think they have a real thing going on here i.e. with the introduction of origami jewellery (the brooch pins are such a WIN!), and the dainty delicates – the arrow bracelet + necklace and the DOT pendant (and brooch pin, might I add) and not forgetting the midi ring sets – We want more of those. At least, I do.

I’m not certain how excellent/or not the quality will be over a period of time, but I’m very much buying this bear pin as soon as I hit “Publish”, I think. Oh, and it’s actually a boar pin – I’m calling it a bear because I like bears and this looks like one and it makes me think of/instantly reminds me of one of the constellations I really like – the Big Dipper, and then Ursa Major, if you may. What do you think of their jewellery? (Also, this pin is available to shop for, priced at Rs. 900.) // Other interesting news: Working on a separate set of business cards for myself. Don’t worry, the confetti ones will continue! I just like variation, c’est al.

P.S. SPOILER ALERT: This post wasn’t sponsored! I do really like their collection; it’s interesting and very much what bhane. is about – generally. Wish there were an introductory discount though, hahaha, but YEP! Can’t wait to possess one of these fellows. Let me know if you plan to get your paws on any… The squirrel’s quite fancy, too.
