HIGH BY THE BEACH

251 High by the Beach

“Rose Quartz is a persuasive yet gentle tone that conveys compassion and a sense of composure. Serenity is weightless and airy, like the expanse of the blue sky above us, bringing feelings of respite and relaxation even in turbulent times.”

(This is what has been said on the Pantone website.) Never before have I felt a more powerful pull to the colours of the year! I have always been interested in knowing what the colours of the year are (ever since 2012), but this year feels special. I feel like they are connected to me in a very overall way, this year. The colours speak to me! A cool wave of tranquility washes over me… Cleansing my soul completely. I am warm, I am cool, I am tinted, I am hued, I am flawed, I am perfect. I am well!

  1. This is a collection of items that seemed to reflect my thoughts – at least, I think so! I chose them for their colouring and vibe. Also, my mermaid socks from Forever 21 (Rs. 89), and the Ruchi Opal Pendant from Accessorize (Rs. 343.50) make an appearance, here.
  2. I am very excited to begin reading The Love Letter and Other Stories by Buddhadeva Bose; I have only read one of his other books which I enjoyed immensely so yeah, I picked this one up on a whim. (The book isn’t being sold like this, I just liked how it looked without its jacket on.)
  3. I don’t remember how this little plastic, Barbie-like mermaid came into my possession, but I am not complaining. I like her!
  4. And the watercolour postcard? :-) Sonaksha posted this one across to me, and I love it so much. (Yes, it is from the same series that I was talking about earlier.)

P.S. I think it is very, very important to remember that you are the only person who can make you whole again. I was lost for a very long time, sinking slowly into a dreary depression, etc. and so I might be able to relate to someone else feeling similarly. It would be crazy town to tell you my life is idyllic RN, but it certainly is not so bad either. I have been forgetting about the little things (maybe you have, too?) – and now, I really want to devote my efforts, energy, love, money and time to create more – and, experiences.

The Cocoa Butter Solution

240 The Cocoa Butter SolutionOkay, so it has been a while! To be fair, there was this, and oh, this. But were you keeping track? Maybe not. (THIS IS A PRODUCT REVIEW!) ♥ Getting into the heart of matter, I knew of Palmer’s but never felt a need to buy anything from them before. (Besides I haven’t seen their products, here.) So when I received a full-sized product of their Skin Therapy Oil (60 ml) in the beauty box sent over from ELLE (India) a few months ago, I was exciiiiited! This body oil is from Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula (with Vitamin E) range, and it is one of those “Holy Grail” products known to take care of scars, stretch marks, dry or damaged skin, an uneven skin tone and aging skin.

Started using the body oil a few weeks ago (not regularly) but I love how it smells and feels on my skin, especially on the elbows and knees. There are times when I add a few drops of it to my bath water, too! It’s a product I want to save for the colder months because it would work even better, then. The shorter review? Yes, it is non-greasy, in fact, a coin-sized amount can cover both of your hands, including the elbows; and it smells delicious (cocoa butter, after all) in a non-overpowering way. It’s kind of like a dry, moisturizing body oil!

This body oil is good to slather on your legs when wearing skirts with/without stockings outside during winter; better protection, when you are exposed to the harsh cold. I would prefer applying it on exposed skin when I go out, because I do not know if it stains clothes! Ooh and, it isn’t sticky like some mousse-esque body butters can be; the price of a 60 ml bottle varies from website to website, Rs. 480 and/or Rs. 840, et cetera, et cetera.

{ Rating – 8 / 10 }

P.S. I was lucky enough to be sent this box of goodies because I was one of first 300 folks to register on the ELLE Beauty Week 2015 website! Registering entitles you to avail of discounts when it comes to booking appointments at select salons or receive the word on cool make-up classes to attend, etc. (during a certain period); and of course, if you register early then you also receive boxes like I did! Apart from the body oil, there was a felt-tip eyeliner and bottle of nail polish from Maybelline along with a Calvin Klein perfume sample, a dainty bottle of Moroccanoil potion, a tiny tube of a Za face cleanser, and a bar of Soulflower soap in the Sexy Strawberry fragrance.

Pineapple Express

232 Pineapple Express

For some reason, patterns and prints – of the very tropical fruit, pineapple – are following me around and well, I thought it would be cool to use it as inspiration for a post in my #LearnToDraw series, hehe. Oh, and the fruit sporting Wayfarers isn’t entirely an idea that is mine – I borrowed it from the way one of the stylists at Grazia (India), Vinita Makhija styled a pineapple similarly in this month’s issue (Page 110) for a product series called Beach, Please – check it out, it’s quite colourful. Cute, mais non? Now, I’m looking for pineapple prints all over town! Pineapples on cool, summer fabrics or in the form of brooch pins (completely gold, not enamelled)… Ah, crap, just what I need! More things that I want to buy, and shit. See you soon?

P.S. I’ll sip on my imaginary piña colada, till then but if you click on this sentence, it will transfer your gaze safely to a very floral, summery post on my friend Edlyn’s blog – Egeedee (also, EGD); OH, UNRELATED… BUT I WANT TO GO TO GOA! Goooooah, I miss you so bad. :’-(

Aquamarine

223 Aquamarine

Ooh, sorry for waxing poetic – Nay, oceanic – about aquamarine hues! When I was little, I always maintained that my favourite colour was blue. Or I would tell people random things, how much I liked (and still love, to this day) looking at swimming pools; I think mermaids just could be real (oh, humour me – won’t you, please?), I found myself to be an ardent collector of sea stories (and shells), and enjoyed making castles of sand, and well, just all kinds of ocean-related crazies.

I think over the years though, the blues darkened and I fell in LOVE with black, fast and very hard… But I guess I still always really liked the colour blue. Sorry, I know this sounds like some weirdo romantic escapade! :-( Okay, cutting several anecdotes short to include in this story, I think you know that I have been crushing over blue, green, mint, teal hues ever since last year… Erm, the “Minaj Wedding”, yougaiz! These tints that just soften a look, or pop an outfit oh-so-dreamily.

1. Nika Brooch, And Smile – $17.30

Ordered this brooch pin (and the other one in the picture) from Viktorija Semjonova, last year. I will not get into specifics because I already wrote about these lovely, water-colour prints before.

2. Turquoise Ombre Gathered Maxi Dress, bhane. – Rs. 950

Been thinking about this oceanie/mermaid dress on bhane. for a long, long time now! I think it’s just so pretty, and also, I’ve never ordered from bhane. before. Ooh, I want to!

3. Isis Necklace, Lune – Rs. 500; Laura Brooch, And Smile – $17.30

This is one of my favourite pictures from this shoot! I bought the book a couple of years ago, and don’t remember if I liked it all that much but the cover? SIGH. That cover! The key charm necklace is from Sreesha’s shop; I like its broken quality – makes me think of vintage houses, you know?

4. CASUAL Sea Salt Texturising Spray, TONI & GUY (200 ml) – Rs. 1,050

Erm, okay, so sue me! Bought this on a whim, I had heard about it a bit, yeah, and thought it might be fun to try out. So, it smells really good, and I’ve been using it to style my hair messily as opposed to having actual bedhead, lolol, and yeah, to weave braids into my messy knot thingie. I think I got excited mostly by the mention of SEA SALT, alone.

5. Sreesha Necklace, The Jupiter Skye Shop – Rs. 480

Aha! The Jupiter Skye Shop exiiiists, you all! RO CAN HAZ SHOP! I am being tardy with uploading more jewellery and stationery frequently, but look out – There will be lovelies that you will want to order. Ah, endless hope.

{ What else is in the picture? 1. Cream White Lace Bralette, Forever 21 – Rs. 679; 2. Brazilian Knickers in Emerald Green, Marks & Spencer – Rs 599; 3. Eternal Love Pendant (Triquetra), Accessorize – Rs. 695; 4. Ear Cuff (Dancing Skulls), Colaba Causeway – Rs. 90; 5. Psychedelic Feather Earring, Dryad – Rs. 500; 6. Mystical Glass Box (Hexagon), The Home Label – Rs. 640; 7. Rhinestone Teardrop Earrings, Accessorize – Rs. 403.50; 8. Express Finish Vernis Séchage in 865 Turquoise Green, Maybelline New York – Rs. 220 }

(HELLO, HOW ARE YOU?: Wanted to get your attention to tell you that none of these clothes, products or whatevers were sponsored for this post; everything’s been bought by me and all views are naturally my own. Probably, sadly, too! Also, if you are my friend in real life, you will know that I have not worn many of these lovelies just as yet… OUI, I AM A HOARDER.)
