Jane by Design: The Big Poofy Skirt

Lately, I’ve been watching re-runs of Ugly Betty and I’m nearly done with all four seasons, and of course, I needed a new TV show to latch on to. That’s when I heard about Jane by Design. The basic premise intrigued me and I thought, Why not? Might as well give it a shot.

Jane by Design revolves around high school student, Jane Quimby (Erica Dasher), who’s basically an unpopular girl at school (there’s always one of those); she mistakenly lands a job at this really cool fashion design house working for a world-famous designer (enter Andie MacDowell as Gray Chandler Murray).

So far, I’m about six episodes down and I think it’s safe to say that the show is not bad at all. It’s interesting. Light. Quirky. Alive. The type whose story you’d be interested to follow. The characters are nascent and require more structure. But yes, don’t write it off after just an episode.

And what I really LOVE about the show…

The Big, Poofy Skirts!

These are Erica Dasher’s style USP on the series for sure. The skirts have my complete and undivided attention. So fabulous! Big, black netted tutu skirts paired with broad leather corset belts and the like. Volume. Sheer pink fabric used to create gorgeous dresses (episode 2). What’s interesting is that the elaborate skirts are usually paired with something offbeat – tees with nautical stripes or quirky prints like lips or swallows.
